Questions
When does overtime start in India?
Under the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, 2020 (in force from 21 November 2025), overtime is work beyond 8 hours a day or 48 hours a week, and must be paid at twice the ordinary rate of wages. Some states and establishments have different daily limits, so check your state rules or employment contract.
How is overtime calculated here?
Hours above the daily limit are added up for the week; separately, hours above the weekly limit are found. Whichever is larger is counted as overtime, so the same hours are never paid twice.
How do I convert minutes to decimal hours?
Divide minutes by 60 — 7 h 45 min is 7.75 hours. The result shows both formats so you can copy the one your payroll needs.
