Questions

How big is a ground and a cent?

In Tamil Nadu 1 ground = 2,400 sq ft (about 222.97 sq m). A cent is 1/100 of an acre = 435.6 sq ft, used in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh. So 1 ground ≈ 5.51 cents.

How many guntha make an acre?

40 guntha = 1 acre, so 1 guntha = 1,089 sq ft (121 sq yards). Guntha is common in Maharashtra, Karnataka and Telangana.

Why does bigha differ between states?

Bigha is a traditional unit with no single national value — it ranges from about 6,800 sq ft in Uttarakhand to 27,000+ sq ft in UP, Bihar and Haryana, and can vary even between districts. Pick your state above and always confirm with the local revenue (tehsil) records. Kanal and marla here use the Punjab revenue standard (1 kanal = 20 marla = 5,445 sq ft); city plots often use a 225 or 250 sq ft marla.
