Questions

What is the leap year rule?

In the Gregorian calendar a year is a leap year if it is divisible by 4 — but years divisible by 100 are not, unless they are also divisible by 400. So 2000 was a leap year, 1900 and 2100 are not, and 2028 is the next one.

Why do we have leap years?

The Earth takes about 365.2422 days to go round the Sun. Adding 29 February in 97 out of every 400 years keeps the calendar in step with the seasons.

What if I was born on 29 February?

Your birthday comes on the calendar only in leap years. In other years most people celebrate on 28 February or 1 March; for legal age many countries treat 1 March as the birthday.
