Questions
How long does KVP take to double money?
At the current 7.5% a year (compounded yearly), KVP doubles your money in 115 months — 9 years and 7 months. This rate applies to certificates bought in October–December 2026; rates are reviewed every quarter.
Can I encash KVP early?
Yes, after 2 years and 6 months from the date of issue, at the value for the period held. Earlier encashment is allowed only on the holder's death, by court order, or forfeiture by a pledgee.
Is KVP interest taxable?
Yes. There is no tax deduction for the investment, and the interest is taxed at your slab rate — either year by year or in full at maturity. A PAN is needed for investments above ₹50,000 and proof of income above ₹10 lakh.
